ACell to Sponsor Physician Education Event at Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing 2014 Annual Conference

CME-credited Event to Leverage Broad UBM Clinical Experience for Expanded Awareness

Columbia, MD – (March 24, 2014) – ACell, Inc., a leading regenerative medicine company focused on the development, manufacturing and commercialization of tissue repair products, today announced that it will sponsor a continuing medical education (CME) credited lecture at the upcoming Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing (APWH) 2014 Annual Conference taking place March 27-30 in Philadelphia, PA. The lecture will focus on urinary bladder matrix (UBM) technology as the next generation in complex wound management by closing chronic wounds and achieving positive clinical outcomes where other advanced therapies have failed. The event will take place on Friday, March 28 at 7:15 p.m. ET.

The lecture aims to leverage the clinical community’s broad experience with urinary bladder matrix to expand awareness and understanding of how it can be used to achieve improved outcomes in both wound care and surgical applications.

Prominent podiatric surgeon Dr. Cameron Field, DPM, ABPS, of the Department of Podiatric Surgery at the Denver Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, will lead the lecture and discuss the unique differentiators of porcine-derived UBM technology for chronic wounds, his clinical experiences and case study examples, as well as a review of a retrospective study of recalcitrant wounds he conducted that was published in the Journal of Wound Care.

“As clinicians, we are faced with treating patients with difficult to treat wounds, many times where advanced therapies have failed,” said Dr. Cameron Field. “Through our retrospective study, we verified that ACell’s urinary bladder matrix technology proved a very effective tool in closing recalcitrant wounds with rapid healing and fewer applications than with other products, resulting in a structurally more-sound wound environment with minimal recurrence rates. In fact, we have yet to see recurrence in the same area of a wound where urinary bladder matrix was used.”

Details of the ACell dinner lecture presentation are as follows:

Event: Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing (APWH) 2014 Annual Conference
Presenter: Dr. Cameron Field, DPM, ABPS, Denver VA Medical Center
Date: Friday, March 28, 2014
Time: 7:15 – 8:15 p.m. ET
Location: Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown, Philadelphia, PA

Jim DeFrancesco, Chief Executive Officer, said, “In line with our National Physician Education Initiative, this lecture offers physicians an opportunity to continue their education by providing deep clinical and scientific insight into challenges and advances in complex wound care. We are pleased to be partnering with Dr. Field on this initiative to demonstrate the unique regenerative and healing properties and constructive tissue remodeling characteristics of UBM technology and its use in a wide range of applications, including difficult-to-treat wounds.”

Comprised of naturally-occurring urinary bladder matrix (UBM), ACell’s MatriStem products are medical devices that maintain and support a healing environment through constructive remodeling. MatriStem maintains an intact epithelial basement membrane which is hypothesized to facilitate the body’s natural healing potential.

MatriStem devices have received multiple 510(k) clearances from the FDA and are indicated for wound management including for pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, surgical wounds and trauma wounds, and the reinforcement of soft tissue where weakness exists in urological, gynecological and gastroenterological anatomy.

ACell, Inc. offers the next generation of regenerative medicine through the development and commercialization of unique extracellular matrix products to repair and remodel damaged tissues in a broad range of applications. Its patented MatriStem ECM medical devices maintain and support a healing environment through constructive remodeling and are available in particle and sheet forms for the treatment of acute wounds and various surgical procedures.
